Day 1 - We're off (sort of!)

Today started off well with a straightforward check in at Edinburgh airport, but when we got to security I got huckled for being in possession of a spanner and a set of Allen keys.  They must have thought I planned to dismantle the plane in mid flight as they insisted I check my bag in as hold luggage.  Fortunately Easyjet didn't charge us for an extra bag.

On arrival at Basle we were relieved o see all our bags and bikes turn up. Unfortunately we soon discovered that my pannier rack was broken and my back wheel was so buckled it wouldn't turn.  So, after a visit to the baggage office for a claim form, we managed to get a taxi t take us, the two bikes and all our gear into a bike shop in Basle wher Francois at Jucker Bike was fantastic.  He lent us a bike so that we could cycle into the campsite in town while he immediately set about fitting a new wheel and rack.

By the time we got to the campsite, pitched our tent on the last available space and had a beer, he was on the phone to say the bike as fixed.  We hadn't planned to spend tonight in Basle, but thanks to Francois we are now sorted, fed and ready to hit the road tomorrow.
Today's miles- about  14

  1. Bad luck there. I managed to get my multitool which has a knife blade out to Majorca and back in my hand luggage.
